SkinPen® Microneedling - PRP Enhanced

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy the is minimally invasive This treatment utilizes and is used for skin rejuvenation by creating a controlled injury to the skin followed with the skin to react by producing more collagen at a much more rapid speed. This also creates micro-channels and forces products to penetrate much deeper into the skin. The active ingredient during micro needling is hyaluronic acid and is recommended to follow with Tensage® growth factor. Used to treat scarring, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, texture and tone, improving collagen production and elasticity. Treatments can be 2 weeks apart.

Microneedling may be partnered several ways with other growth factor treatments including PRP (Platelet- Rich Plasma) topically and injections, Ultherapy and Fraxel. When combining these treatments the PRP first promotes the growth factors and increase the effectiveness and results of both procedures with helping to tighten and firm the skin. It will also help greatly to minimize the healing time of treatments such as the Utherapy® and Fraxel®. It is recommended to receive micro needling with PRP 2 weeks prior to receiving Ultherapy® or Fraxel® treatment.

Microneedling and PRP are excellent as stand-alone treatments, but together they can provide amazing results! When combined, these procedures replenish and renew your skin, reversing common signs of aging. Read on to learn more about this treatment and how it can benefit your skin.

The Treatments

  • PRP – PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, uses your blood’s platelets to stimulate collagen production to heal soft tissue. When injected into treatment areas, PRP can result in healthy, supple skin.
  • Microneedling – Micro needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, rejuvenates the skin by creating small injuries to the skin. This restarts your skin’s natural healing abilities and rebuilding of important underlying structures, which improves the elasticity of the skin and diminishes signs of aging.

How is Microneedling with PRP Performed?

This treatment will begin with PRP therapy. A small amount of blood will be drawn from your arm, and then centrifuged to separate the plasma from the rest of the blood. This plasma is rich in platelets, which help create new collagen in the skin. A topical numbing cream will then be applied to the treatment areas to ensure your comfort. Your prepared PRP is applied to the face, and the micro needling will take place. The use of PRP with microneedling improves patient results by creating direct access for platelets to enter the skin.

Who is a candidate for SkinPen Micro Therapy?

SkinPen Micro Therapy can be used on all skin types and skin colors, and can address a wide range of problems, including acne scarring, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, and any area where cell regeneration is desired.

What happens during the SkinPen Micro Therapy procedure?

A sterile and disposable cartridge containing 9 to 11 microneedles is attached to the tip of the SkinPen. A thin layer of topical serum is applied to the skin and the appropriate micro-channeling depth is selected for your skin, anywhere from .5mm for a light treatment up to 2.5mm for a more agressive treatment. In a gentle motion, the pen is glided across the target repair areas. At shorter needle depths, you will feel a tickling sensation. More aggressive treatments may require topical numbing cream.

How does SkinPen Micro Therapy work?

As the SkinPen is moved over the skin, it vertically penetrates the surface layers of your skin. Your skin reacts by initiating the healing process, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Most patients begin to see results in one day to a week after treatment, though each patient's healing time differs. Immediately after treatment, you may notice a pink appearance in the treatment area. In some cases minor pin-point bleeding depending on the depth of the needle penetration.

A series of treatments is typically recommended to achieve optimum results. However, improvement in skin texture and brightening may be noticeable after just one treatment. Three to four treatments may be required for treating mild wrinkles and fine lines, while the treatment of acne scars may require six to eight treatments.
